Twinsie Tuesday: Grunge

So some of the Twinsies were talking this week about how old they were during the height of grunge, and I'm pleased to say that I was able to refrain from calling them a bunch of young whippersnappers and shouting at them to get off my lawn. But rather than revel in the old, I put Ten on repeat (one of the greatest albums of all time! *drop the mic*) and got down to working on an appropriately "grunge" manicure to go with.

A brushstroke manicure seemed like the way to go. I've used this technique a few times now and thought it'd really lend itself to the grunge style. I also knew I'd be using black (Nfu Oh 132) but didn't want it to dominate, so I also added a little bit of colour in olive green (OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window and Zoya Gemma) and lavender (Essie Bangle Jangle), as well as some grey (Zoya Dove) and a greyish beige (OPI Skull & Glossbones) to neutral/putty it up a bit.

I gave it the usual coat of Seche Vite, then covered that with some Essie Matte About You for a great, theme-appropriate, matte finish.

I felt like the colours were a little drab overall, but then grunge isn't exactly supposed to be perky, so...win? I definitely loved how well they cooperated with the brushstroke technique. I just wish I'd mentioned this theme to Husband earlier because when he heard "grunge" he said, "Gonna cover your nails with a plaid, flannel shirt?"

Dammit, that's brilliant.

Okay, you whippersnapper Twinsies--lemme see how you grunge!
