Twinsie Tuesday: Fishtail

For this week's Twinsie Tuesday we're doing fishtail nails! I expect we'll probably see some different designs, since "fishtail" means different things to different people, but to me it's a manicure with curved chevron tips, a shape that looks a bit like an actual fish's tail.

This is the first time I've done a fishtail manicure...unless you count the two I did right before this one that turned out just tragically...so I guess it's better to say these are the first fishtail nails that I didn't immediately nuke before the polish could dry. This time went much better after I watched Sarah's tutorial at Chalkboard Nails.

Since my first tries were ridiculously thick by the time I hit the tips, I chose these colours based on knowing that Skinfood BL514 is a good one-coater and worked backwards from there. The base is OPI Did It On 'Em, from the 2012 Nicki Minaj collection, and the lighter teal is Essie Where's My Chauffeur? (which, I don't like it when polish names end in punctuation because then it looks weird when I add a full-stop afterwards...but now that I've rambled about it in parentheses, it's not really an issue anymore, so take that, grammar!).

I'm sorry, grammar, you know I love you. Let's never fight again.

I need a lot more practice to get this technique down, given how hard it is for me to do things like eyeball the middle of my nail and make even lines (they're only slightly less difficult for me than open-heart surgery while climbing Mt. Everest). Still, it's definitely one I'll try again!

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else did for their fishtail nails--including our three new Twinsies I'm so excited to welcome! Kelly from Tuxarina, Lakeisha from Refined & Polished, and Traci from DrinkCitra!

  8. I loved the teals. I heard somewhere that teal is the only color that looks good on every skin color. It would be fun to have a bunch of nail bloggers with all different colors of skins use the exact same teal polish and see how it flatters (or doesn't) anybody. That's called rambling. I also wanted to say I looooove how you write...makes me laugh in the very best way. Oh, and just to embarrass myself publicly: when I was in college I wanted to make extra money by typing term papers and whatnot for other students so I ran off a bunch of flyers and went all around campus posting them. I also put on the flyer that I would correct punctuation and "grammer." Unbeknownst to me, an English major friend of mine was following right behind me. On every flyer, he crossed out the "e" in "grammer" and wrote the correct "a" above it. In red felt pen. At first I was soooooo ashamed of myself because I really did think that was the right way to spell the word but it turned out everyone thought it was a great marketing touch and I got a lot of work off those corrected flyers. And I have never misspelled "grammar" since. :)
