Twinsie Tuesday: Fictional Animal Print

Today for Twinsie Tuesday we're doing fictional animal print nails! I wanted so much to make up some colourful, fantastical new creature for this, but my brain just wasn't having it. Instead of "fictional" it got stuck on "mythical," and from there it went straight to dragons.

The base is a roughly sponged gradient of OPI Big Apple Red, OPI In My Back Pocket (orange) and OPI Need Sunglasses? (which I desperately need a new bottle of because I barely had enough left to yellow up the tips). To add some fire, I used Essie Shine of the Times, a stunning flakie top coat, and then on top of all that, I painted scales in coppery-gold acrylic paint.

Next time I do something like this, I'm going to make the scales a lot bigger and not cover so much of these blazing flakies, because they looked awesome. Also, painting gold on top of shimmering yellow? Reeeally hard to see straight. >_<

I decided to go specifically a with fire dragon because the colours are just so Hong Kong. Especially for New Year's, red dragons are absolutely everywhere. Dragons are said to be lucky, as are red and gold--red because it drives away evil and gold because gold is gold. Hopefully I can remember this design for next Chinese New Year!
