Birthday Cupcake Nail Art

This past Saturday was my birthday, and it was a wonderful day! Husband took me to see the Sleeping Beauty ballet, and I just loved it. Hadn't seen it in years and years, but I still had that same feeling of innocent glee that I always did as a kid, watching ballets at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans with my parents. This ballet ended with a ginormous fall of glittering confetti, showering everyone on stage in sparkling pink and gold, and if I ever find a nail polish that recreates that effect, I might never wear anything else again.

Fortunately, my birthday also gets very high marks for not seeing a resurgence of the migraine that tried to crush my skull the night before. As a result of that, I didn't have the time (or the eyesight) to do the Sleeping Beauty nail art I'd hoped to try that night, but I still was able to fit in some quick, cute birthday cupcake nail art before we left for the ballet because birthday-less nails was not an option.

The base is Skinfood BL003 Green Bean Milk, and then I painted 1/3 of each nail with Revlon Colorstay Passionate Pink. The rest of the design is acrylic paint, which I went with because it dries faster than polish, but nail polish would work just as well for these. I just striped on some lighter pink for the cupcake cup lines and swooshed around a couple coats of fluffy white for the icing. Some colourful dots made candy sprinkles, and then I added light purple candles. The candle flames are a very rough mixture of the orange and yellow from the sprinkles, only partially blended so that it could look just a little bit more like flame. Of course, you had to be within about two feet of my nails to notice that part... (^_-)

So, cupcake nails and a lovely ballet, and after, we had a great dinner of Korean BBQ, where we ate all the kimchi and drank all the Hite beer, and my migraine didn't come back, and Husband got me a fabulous spa certificate and a sparkly princess birthday card (that dude knows me so well). All in all, a fantastic day!

PS, there's about 10 days left in my Birthday Giveaway! And with that, I've probably said "birthday" enough times for one post now, so, over and out!

    1. Thank you very much! They really are adorable. Smaller than a regular polish at just 8ml, but then, they're also cheaper and easier to talk myself into buying two. :P

  21. Happy Birthday Elizabeth! Mine is coming up soon, so I got to get to planning my birthday mani! And this mani is so cute, fun and perfect for the occasion!

And on a side note, I love Ballet. I wish I would have taken it as a kid, my dream is still to become a ballerina! Unfortunately, Charleston doesn't ever have ballet shows like The Sleeping Beauty (or even the Nutcracker)! I need to get to one soon :)

I loved taking ballet as a little kid, and yes! I totally wanted to be a ballerina when I grew up! Still do too (though, if I haven't grown up yet at this point... ;p). Wow, I'm surprised Charleston doesn't at least have The Nutcracker at Christmas. Hope you get to go soon, Heather!

I get awful migraines too and only sleep and a dark room can cure me...

    1. Aw, thank you, Jayne! Much sympathy for the migraines--they're so horrible! Fortunately I get very clear visual cues that one is coming, so if I pop some pills as soon as I notice them and go to sleep, I can usually escape the worst of it, like I did this time. They always linger for days, though, so even without the worst part, there's still that dull ache and that constant threat of a resurgence. Ugh, migraines suck! >_<
