Today's post for Purple Week is a little later than I'd planned because today's polish is jumping the queue to preempt. I'd planned to finish the week with this personal favourite, but after previewing the purple I put on to post today I posited that it might possibly be time for a palate cleanser, in a paler shade of plum. Plenty of "p" sounds for one paragraph? Probably.
Please allow me to present a purple polish with no "p" sounds whatsoever, China Glaze Below Deck.
Aaaaaaah. After several days of bright purples (pretty as they've been!), this is such a pleasantly soothing colour! I've shown it previously, among my Fifteen Polishes for Fall, but when I realized I hadn't posted it on its own before I knew it had to make an appearance in Purple Week. (Am I still using a lot of p's, or can I just not stop hearing them now?)
From the China Glaze Anchors Away Collection, spring 2011, Below Deck was among the "it" shades of lavender-grey that were so incredibly popular at the time, and it's one I continue to adore. This muted, grey plum, which does dry a bit darker than the bottle, is so beautifully creamy and smooth. Great formula, nicely self-leveling, easy to control, and opaque in two coats.
I will reluctantly agree with Amanda that brighter purples probably suit my skin tone a little better, but this is just such a gorgeously appealing shade. It's also one that, as I mentioned in my Fall Polishes post, looks great any time of year. Not too light or too dark, not too pale or too bright, Below Deck is a definite classic.
Purple Week continues tomorrow with today's originally scheduled polish...Spoiler alert: it's purple! Since today's post was later than planned I've already seen what Amanda is wearing for her side of the challenge, and it's a beauty. ^_^
This is a different shade! I like it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kelly! ;)
DeleteI have always loved this one!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Essie Rae! It really is a classic. ;)
DeleteVery nice colour. I have this one but haven't gotten around to wearing it yet. I will need to do that soon! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Meghan--I hope you enjoy it!!
DeleteThis IS a gorgeous shade and a nice palate cleanser. It's a pretty pale purple, but not overly done. I love the hint of gray in it!
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch, Heather!! I find pretty much everything about this so soothing! ^_^
DeleteWhat a coincidence! I have this polish on my nails right now! I don't wear it enough but I think it's a pretty sensible purple to wear all year round.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's so cool! :o)
DeleteI love it, and that first paragraph xD
ReplyDeleteHaha, thank you, Sharra!! (^_^)

DeleteSuch a pretty color!
ReplyDeleteThanks, veronica! :)
DeleteThis colour is so nice! I love it when palate cleansers aren't boring and have a beautiful quality to them like this one :) I love the grey tones to it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenn!! I'm always so enthusiastic about shimmers and holos and glitterbombs, but I also love finding soft, pretty cremes like this one that can wow on colour alone. ;)
DeleteWhile I agree with myself, as cited in your post, that brighter purples are just the bee's knees on you, there's something universally flattering about the muted grey/brown-ish purple. In fact, it was your initial transitional post that prompted me to swap for it and I'm so happy I now own this beauty!
ReplyDeleteI don't know of any skin tone this wouldn't look great on--and I'm so excited that you got this one!! Thank you very much, Amanda!
DeleteThis is really pretty <3
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jenna! :D
DeleteHonestly you can pull off any shade of purple! Below Deck looks fantastic on you :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet, Brittney--thank you very much!!
DeleteSuch a beautiful "dusty" shade of purple, I think it goes to my "wishlist" :-)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I think this would look lovely on you! Thanks so much! :)
