I hope everyone had--or is still having--a fantastic Valentine's Day! I have to confess to being really surprised at the lack of V-Day nail art that happened on my hands. The day itself isn't a huge deal to me, but I'm such a sucker for cute hearts and things all year 'round that I'm surprised I didn't at least get into the spirit when it came to my nails. But I'm pretty much always up for something sparkly, so I decided it was a good time to enjoy wearing China Glaze Angel Wings, from the Winter 2012 Holiday Joy Collection.
Angel Wings is a very finely milled, golden glitter. Like Winter Holly, it applies matte and dries to a soft, sandy finish that can either be worn as-is or smoothed with a generous helping of top coat.
For some reason, Angel Wings lobstered my fingertips a bit, which usually only happens with pale blues or mint, but as is often the case, the polish is just so pretty that I really wasn't fussed. Also like Winter Holly, there are holographic particles among the glitter that add a subtle but eye-catching bit of extra dazzle to Angel Wings, an effect that can be seen whether you wear it matte or glossy. Here's a slightly blurred, close up shot for a better look at that sparkle.
Before I top coated my nails I enjoyed the matte texture for a little while and was impressed that while it's not a finish I'd want to run over a nice pair of stockings, the "rough" version was still pleasantly smooth and sandy to the touch. If the upcoming Texture Collection feels anything like these holiday glitters, I expect to have several of them on my list!
The formula was great again with this glitter as well. Easy to control with nice, even coverage. I'm wearing 3 coats here, and even my stubborn, photo-bombing nail line was nowhere to be seen.

gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lydz!
DeleteIt's really amazing what a difference a top coat can make. Just looking at it naked is like nails on a chalkboard to me, as weird as that sounds. But glossed over, I'm in love.
ReplyDeleteHaha, pretty sure I know what you mean. And yeah, it really is a huge difference!
DeleteIt's quite pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maria! :)
Deletei am completely in love with this polish! can't wait to get my hand on them!
ReplyDeleteThank you, shine eye! Hope you don't have to wait too long! ;)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Heather! :D
DeleteThis is such an awesome glitter!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like it too--thanks, Marisa! :)
DeleteWow, I can't believe how much of a difference top coat makes! Angel Wings is beautiful though and it looks wonderful on you :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brittney! This finish really is kind of like having two polishes in one. ;)
DeleteFantastic on you! :D <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ash!!
DeleteI hadn't thought of comparing a glitter bomb to the upcoming texture. Will have to wear one with no topcoat to see if I can tolerate it, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe OPI Liquid Sands are definitely more chunky than these CG holiday ones--and it looks like the CG spring textures will be a little "thicker" as well when applied--but I do kinda like the sandy texture of this one pre-tc. ;)
DeleteYour pics brought out the glitter really well. I'm impressed that the matte topcoat gave it a texture look.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much!! This isn't actually a matte topcoat--the polish itself is textured a lot like sand, but it gets smooth and shiny with some (like, two coats) of top coat over. I kinda like it both ways. :)
DeleteI like it better with top coat. Love the color on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenni! ^_^
DeleteBoth versions of China Glaze Angel Wings are beautiful! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! :o)
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Meredith! :D
DeleteI got this as a gift! I honestly didn't love it in the bottle. But it was so drool worthy when I put it on :)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how it comes to life like that--awesome gift, Kas! ;)
