Today I'm wearing--and loving--Mardi Gras! by Twenty Seven Polish. I've had it for a couple of months and have been saving it, looking forward to Mardi Gras season, and this polish could not be more perfect for it! Okay, maybe if it came with a Dixie beer and some red beans and rice, but there's only so much one bottle of nail polish can do. Still...LOVE!
Purple, green, and gold are the traditional colours of Mardi Gras, and that's what this glitter polish is made of--small green and purple hexes, with large, holographic hexes of gold that totally remind me of the coveted, "gold" parade doubloons. (Protip: If you're at a parade and one hits the ground near you, don't bend down to reach for it, or you'll be too slow; stomp on it immediately, before someone else does. Then you can pick it up.)
This is one generously dabbed coat of Mardi Gras! over China Glaze Def Defying, followed by a coat of Gelous, plus one of SV. I don't know that it actually needed that much top coat, but the total effect was really stunning. Glassy-smooth and shiny, and the golden hexes still shone like crazy. I actually didn't realize when I ordered Mardi Gras! that the gold was holographic, but I kept staring at my nails all day, loving the way they caught the light.
As perfectly seasonal as this polish is, I think it'd look great year-round as well, over maybe a light or emerald green or a nice lavender or lilac. Ooh, or black...or in a jelly sandwich! I definitely expect to get a lot of wear out of this one. I know I'll also be wearing it again in a couple of weeks on Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras Day, when Husband and I are going to a New Orleans restaurant that just recently opened here in Hong Kong. Really looking forward to that! Now I just need to find a bakery here that sells King Cake...

ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Chelsea!! I usually find props kind of distracting, but I thought the beads were just too fitting not to use with this one. ^_^
