Orly Space Cadet

Part of the Cosmic FX line from autumn 2010, Orly Space Cadet was one of the first polishes that went on my wish list when I started hoarding...er, collecting...no, no, hoarding is right...nail polish. Given its age and how few places in Hong Kong carry Orly, though, I'd pretty much given up finding it until I hit an Ulta in the States this past summer with Brandi, and lo and behold, she spied a couple of bottles hiding in their Dark Shadows Collection display! Seriously, when she showed it to me, I squeaked out loud, and yes, there was probably dancing too.

Orly Space Cadet is a richly multichrome foil. I was nervous about being able to capture its incredibly dramatic shifts on camera, but it cooperated quite willingly! Pictures still don't do it complete justice, but you can see its awesome range, from a deep, rosy red to purple to copper/bronze, gold, and brightly olive green.

I'm wearing 3-4 coats here, as it was a little thin, but the effect is totally worth it. I may try layering it over black next time, just as an experiment, since removal was every bit as fun as you'd expect 4 coats of foil to be. Still, though. Worth it.

It's so nice when a lemming actually lives up to expectations!

  2. Such a cool polish, the duochrome is great. Thank goodness I'm not the only one who squeals when they find certain polishes ;)

  3. I love this! It's the best when lemmings are actually everything you'd hope they would be! :)

  6. I found a tiny bottle in a set at Sally's a while ago, and I find that layering it over black is the perfect option for conserving it, otherwise it uses up way too much to get it opaque. SUCH a gorgeous color, though!

  9. This one always reminded of of the first (I think) duo/multichrome I ever saw/purchased...it was an OPI in a ltd release and it was in these same shades only no glassflecks in it - it was vvvveeeerrry early for anything like this - thinking back it was probably in the early 1990's...I can only sort of pin-point the date because I recall buying it while on a little shopping trip with a guy I was dating...I did not end up keeping that shade...in a purge I thought it was too odd looking and had not worn it but 1 time and folks thought it was really icky - I thought it was cool but agreed the glowing green in it was sort of Halloween looking - Gosh do times change - what was ugly then is coveted now. The closest I can find in a search for it is Pluto Plum but I don't think that was it. Soon as this Space Cadet came out - that's the shade that came to mind. I bought it right away. But like some others with this purple/green twist, I don't wear it often - it seems to fight most clothing I have on. But glad to know you got a long lemming of yours!

    1. Thanks! It's amazing how trends come and go, isn't it? A few years ago I couldn't stand lime green, and now it's one of my favourite colours ever. ;)

  11. Wowza- what a glorious multichrome polish. I have such a weakness for anything duochrome! I think I have one of the MAC ones that kind of dupes this... now I just might have to pull it out again.
