Twinsie Tuesday: Thanksgiving Nails

Hurtling along the holiday corridor, this week's TT theme is Thanksgiving-inspired nails, and I can't think of anything more "Thanksgiving-inspired" than a good old fashioned handprint turkey.

Also, every American kid who's ever been 6.

Every children's art class in America has no doubt been hard at work this past week perfecting their handprint turkeys with which to wow loving parents who still have last Thanksgiving's masterpiece on the fridge. I still remember the first time I made one, that awe-inspiring moment when the hand I'd traced onto construction paper, like, totally turned into a turkey before my very eyes. I was an artist! An artiste, even! So for today's Twinsie Tuesday manicure I decided to have a little fun with this time-honoured staple of American arts and crafts.

I started with a skittle manicure of some of my usual suspects: OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys (dk. brown), Jessica Mint Mojito Green, OPI Need Sunglasses? (yellow), Revlon Top Speed Fire (red), and OPI In My Back Pocket (orange).

After that, things got a little silly.

I dotted a little face for my turkey and gave him some brightly-coloured, synthetic feathers befitting a child's art project (stuck on with OPI Top Coat), giggled a bit, thought, "Yep, that's a handprint turkey, all right," and happily took my pictures. But after several minutes of thoroughly creeping Husband out by tickling the back of his neck with my nails, I decided to see if I could make my turkey's plumage just a little bit more fabulous...

Nailed it.

These nails are already gone because typing with them was pretty much impossible, but I was sad to see them go. I think maybe I'll print out a picture of them and put it on the fridge.

    1. Thanks, Sharra!! I really did think about trimming the feathers down, at least before I went and fancied them up, but I think I was having too much fun laughing at how silly they were to try to make them practical. :P

  9. LOL! I right away thought these won't work with washing dishes, cooking and all the other things that are heavy duty for many on turkey day in the USA! But I can so see kids loving to do their nails like this as a Thanksgiving day craft time - anything to get them off their computer games and into other play time activities!

  10. Hahahahaha "nailed it." I love this! So so funny. Also, I love that you showed the good ol' handprint turkey. I was playing Pictionary with my family once and the word was "pilgrim." My mom was drawing and totally busted out the hand turkey. Unfortunately, it did not get us to guess "pilgrim," but we had a good laugh!!
