Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is a triple layering experiment. The idea was to layer three different polishes together just to see what we come up with, and it was inspired by this post by Cordia. My own experiments with the theme had some mixed results (some of which, just trust me, do not need to appear here or anywhere else), but a couple of them turned out...eh, you guys can be the judges. (^_-)
The first of my semi-successes involves two metallic greens and an itty bitty glitter. The idea was to combine the lime green base colour, Wet n Wild I Got a New Com-pewter (from the Chrome collection), with a similar crackle/shatter, with a layer of tiny red and gold glitter in between. Only the crackle I thought was "similar" turned out to try "nearly identical" so that it ended up looking more like one lime green polish with just a light dusting of glitter.
You can see the layered effect a little more clearly here. The tiny glitter is an Arezia from the Sasa bins. No name, just a raised number in the glass on the bottom, which I can't even read with all the glitter particles behind it (it could be 31, 10, 16...honestly, no idea). And the crackle is a Sasatinnie, which I seem to have managed to lose in the last 45 minutes. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's either called lime or green. Edit: Just found it again, and it's called...hold onto your hats...Green.
I really do think the end result of this is pretty! If the greens were just maybe one more shade apart from each other
it would have turned out exactly the way I hoped. Still, that's
experimentation, right?
The other experiment I kinda liked, I liked more for the idea than the actual execution. Trying not to overthink and get too "matchy" this time, I restricted myself to "the Korean polishes I have in this bag from Colourmix" and came up with a crackle sandwich.
The base is a very pretty off-white with a strong peach lean. It's by TheFaceShop, but I can't find any hint of what it might be called. Then over that I added a layer of Face It BK902, a shatter/crackle that, uncovered, is actually an awesome shade of dusty grey with just a hit of blue highlight. Then over the top went another TheFaceShop, a semi-sheer jelly with a pink grapefruit tint. I'm not sure how much I like the actual end look of these three combined, but I really like the idea of going jelly on top of a crackle. I'll probably try this one again!
Can't wait to see what the rest of the Twinsies cooked up in their labs!

DeleteI like the idea of a jelly over crackle too! I'm going to have to try it. (heehee crackle sandwich xD)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to be trying that one again too--thanks, Sharra!!
DeleteLove your first experiment! The glitter looks so cute on the green, very Halloweenish!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Anne! :D
DeleteI really really like the second one! now i want to do a jelly over a crackle. so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah! I'm hoping I can come up with a prettier combination next time without the "only what's in this bag" restriction, but it was fun, trying something new. ;)
DeleteThey both came out nicely!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Marisa! :D
DeleteI like the green!... How could I go about joining in with Twinsie Tuesday? I absolutely love the idea and it's so fun to see everyones different takes on the theme each week, I would love to be part of this lil scene...
ReplyDeleteThank you, MissLanage!
DeleteWith TT, we've sort of informally said we're not planning to add anyone before the end of the year, but a good posting history of attractive, creative manicures definitely helps. It's also important that a new member be someone we've gotten to know a little bit too. So, if you're really interested (it's a real commitment, actually), if you keep posting good work and be sure to keep commenting on some of the members' blogs, we'll be able to keep you in mind the next time we talk about expanding.
Great combinations!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch, Ash!! :)
DeleteLove the green! I tried a similar thing a while ago with the platinum color from that WnW line (Forgot what it's called), plus Milani Disco Lights and a small green glitter on top and really loved the effect.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz! I bet that was really cute--I so should have picked up more of these Chromes when I had the chance! >_<
DeleteI love both, but the last one is my fav! I need to try a jelly-crackle sandwich ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maribeth! :D
DeleteBoth of these turned out awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Anna! ^_^
DeleteThat is an awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Meredith! ;o)
DeleteThe crackle one is stunning!
ReplyDeleteJazz x
Thank you very much! :D
DeleteI love both of these! I thought about a crackle sandwich too. I think it's an interesting idea! Maybe a later theme, eh? :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cordia!! Hehe, great minds and all--I definitely think it'd be fun to have another go!
DeleteLove this! I also hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Nory! Migraine seems mostly gone for now, but these suckers always seem to lurk around for a week or so, waiting to come back. They're like movie vampires that way. Or sharks. Or vampire zombie sharks that eat my braaaaaaain! >_<
DeleteI think both of these are really cool and unique <3
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Tara! (^_^)
DeleteI think both of these came out really good! That glitter is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!! That glitter was extra-cute, all tiny and sparkling, before I covered most of it. I'm definitely going to grab a few more if I see this one in the bins again!
DeleteAwesome combos! I really like the first one. The colors are so unique and I *love* a good swampy green!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chelsea!! I love these greens too--I actually have to try to make sure I don't post them too often, otherwise I'd be wearing them all. the. time. ;)
DeleteLove the first one. It's kind of Halloweenish :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kas! Even though it's harder to see the crack-top in pics, it was a fun look to wear. :D
Deletesnazzy!! both of these are really cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks, ChiChi!! :D
