Twinsie Tuesday: Indie Polish

Usually when Twinsie Tuesday rolls around I spend all this time angsting about what I want to do. Should I reach outside my comfort zone (a la poison frog nails), stick with something I'm more confident in (like my go-to favourite, cherry blossoms) or fudge it somewhere middle-of-the-road like I did with my fugly polish choice? This week, though, was simple and easy, no waffling or debating necessary. The theme is indie polishes, and I own exactly one.

Pretty & Polished Jawbreaker swatch

This is Pretty & Polished Jawbreaker, quite possibly one of the best-named and most adorable indie polishes EVER. This little gem came to me in a swap with Brandi of The Collegiate Nail, who added it as an extra surprise because she is made of sunshine and kittens.

Pretty & Polished Jawbreaker swatch

Jawbreaker is a bright, white, jelly-like polish that's crammed right full of awesomeness. There are tiny little indigo spots; small glitter pieces of blue, red, and golden yellow; larger blue hexes; eye-catching squares of red; even tiny little bars of green that add up to the perfect image of those delicious gob-stopping candies I loved as a kid.

In these pictures I'm wearing two coats layered over a base of China Glaze White on White. The two coats by themselves probably would have been opaque enough without the white undies, but since my nails always seem to need an extra coat or three of polish before my tips quit shining through, I decided to play it a little bit safer to conserve my mini-bottle. I do love the dense, layered look I got here with the two coats (this polish is practically a jelly sandwich all by itself!), but if I want to be even more miserly next time, a single coat over white (or an off-white like OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls) would still have plenty of glittery colour without strictly needing that second coat.

Unfortunately Pretty & Polished isn't shipping internationally at the moment, which gives me a ginormous sad because now that I've worn Jawbreaker, I'm going to need about 8 gallons of it on reserve at all times. Husband agrees with this assessment as well. I also have my eye on several of the other goodies in the Pretty & Polished Etsy shop, so hopefully it won't be long before I can stock up!

Correction: Pretty & Polished now ships internationally! WooHoo!

Now that I've been bitten by the indie bug, I'm especially looking forward to seeing what my fellow Twinsies chose for their posts today! Warming up my Wish List in 3, 2, 1...

    1. Thanks, Marisa! Haha, I wish it weren't so hard to figure out how to get more indies all the way over here, but in some ways it might be better that way. I do still need to pay rent and eat and stuff... >_<

  11. I love these confetti in white jelly polishes...when I saw my first one I was goners...so why don't I own one of 'em yet??? I think the first I saw was by Candeo..there is one still made that sends me - I need to look for it. I think I never bought one thinking I could make my own from maybe Essie Marshmallow or like and a multi glitter in clear base. I am surprised as popular as these have been in the indi brands that no main line polish company (that I have seen) has yet come out with one like it. Keep thinking it should be in an OPI or China Glaze line somewhere - they cannot have not been aware of this huge hit. I could see ChG making an entire line collection of various base shades with confetti in them..maybe the big guys have to plan out too far in advance to have caught the wave here.

    1. Thanks! I really do wish the big guys would catch on too. I know OPI is mostly tuned into what they can sell at salons, but I agree completely that the major brands are missing a HUGE opportunity by overlooking the awesome things going on in the indie market.

    1. Thanks, Laura! I really, REALLY wish more major brands would get the hint. There are so many fabulous polish ideas coming out of indieland that I just know would be fantastic sellers. I mean, some of the full-on glitterbombs might be a little much for the mainstream market, but adorable polishes like Jawbreaker could be a huge success for them if they'd only give it a try!
