China Glaze Ick-A-Bod-Y

With all of four days to go before Halloween gets here, the holiday spirit has taken forever to hit me this year. Possibly because it's only just starting to feel like autumn in Hong Kong, and possibly because aside from a couple of store displays and the occasional costumed child wandering around the mall, it doesn't seem like Halloween is really a big thing here. (Though, it's worth noting that it isn't out of the ordinary to see a child at the mall dressed as a Disney Princess or Spider-Man on any given day...Seriously, I love this town.)

Anyway, now that it's finally here, I decided to celebrate with a polish I can't believe I was actually able to find just a couple of weeks ago, China Glaze Ick-A-Bod-Y, from the 2010 Awakening Collection.

Ick-A-Bod-Y is made up of densely-packed, deeply orange glitter in a dark jelly base. The orange has a sort of toasted, warm, "autumn" tint to it, and the base is a rich olive-black.

This was easily opaque in two coats, with no need for a base colour of "underwear" polish. My bottle was just a little thick, probably just the result of being a couple of years old, but it was still quite easy to control.

I did make one forehead-slapping mistake during application: I accidentally wrapped my tips, out of habit, which made them a bit lumpy. Fortunately (I guess?), since this polish definitely dries to a rough finish, wrapping the two coats of SV I used on top helped smooth out those lumps, as well as giving a nice shine to all this incredible glitter.

I'm also slapping my forehead over not getting into the swing of Halloween a lot sooner than this. Since I just started getting into polish and nail art a few months ago, I've thought about all these Halloween-themed manicures I wanted to do and then filed away for later...and now that it's finally time to do 'em, I'm all but out of time! Still have a few days left, though, so I'm going to see if I can't manage some Halloween nail art between now and then. Wish me luck!

    1. Thank you, Ash!! Honestly, I kept turning the bottle over like, "Is this really--?" I guess that's the flip side of being over here; some of the new collections take their sweet time about getting here, but every now and then I luck into something that's a real HTF stateside.

    1. Thanks, Jazz! It's definitely a good one for Halloween, but I do like how the great colour of that orange would work all autumn long. ;)

  7. Such a pretty polish!! I love glitters that don't need a base coat ( and don't need 10 coats to be opaque!!) :)

  9. Love this Halloween glitter! I know what you mean about running out of time and I wrapped my tips with It's Alive out of habit too! It was lumpy, but it turned out to be a good thing, because it lasted longer.

    1. Thank you! Heh, those lumps drove me crazy before I got them covered with SV--bet they'd have lasted an age if I hadn't been in a hurry this week!

  10. This one is great, I love how autumn-y it looks. And you reminded me of my fav from that collection - Zombie Zest, must wear it soon. I think I will be on a lookout for this one, it's pretty much unique, luckily some older collections are still available here too.
