Before I start on today's manicure I'd like to say a quick but sincere thank you to everyone who has visited Did My Nails. Yesterday marked both 150 blog followers and 15,000 page views, which obviously couldn't have happened without you guys stopping by. To celebrate I'll be announcing my first giveaway later this week!
But first, today's Twinsie Tuesday nails, and this week's theme is Rainbow. Not only am I down with another icky, congested cold, but after two huge nail breaks on my photo hand in the past 24 hours (the horror!) I definitely needed something a little bright and cheerful to pick me up. This theme just might have done the trick!
After a base of...I'm not even sure, one of my white or off-white polishes, I sponged different gradient combinations on each nail in the colours of the rainbow (except for indigo, because indigo isn't actually part of the visible spectrum of a rainbow...and also I don't have any indigo nail polish). Over the top of that I very lightly sponged some Orly Au Champagne to help blend and soften the colours, and then I added a coat of Nicole by OPI Rainbow in the S-Kylie because rainbow.
The other colours include a lot of my usual suspects, as well as a couple of new polishes: Revlon Colorstay Red Carpet, OPI In My Back Pocket, China Glaze Sunshine Pop, Jessica Mint Mojito Green, OPI Fly, and OPI Do You Lilac It? (and on top, one coat of SV).
And that's the true and gripping story of my rainbow nails. Thanks again to everyone for stopping by, and for more rainbow manicures, check out the rest of the Twinsie blogs!

Oh no! You're the second of my guest posters from this week who suffered a broken nail. I take personal responsibility for that!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry you're not feeling well! At least your cold stimulated some pretty great creativity here: this mani is awesome!
Yikes, it's like a nail curse! At least I didn't get it too badly this time. I actually had a break on my other hand about a month and a half ago that's only just now reached the same length as these! For now I'll just have to hit the nail strengthener and the NyQuil. ^_^
DeleteThank you very much, Amanda!
Beautiful!!! I love the progression of the rainbow gradients across your nails. Sorry about your nail break and the cold, two mega bummers =( Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jacqui! I'm trying to keep telling myself that both the cold and the broken nails are just a matter of patience and time. The time I've certainly got, but the patience might be another matter. ;)
DeleteFeel better soon! This is definitely a cheerful pick me up though =)
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch, Sharra! They definitely put me in a much better mood. ;)
DeleteThis is so gorgeous, love it - and I hope you get better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maria! Trying hard to be patient and rest... ^_^
Deleteoh, this is so pretty. i love that you sponged au champagne over it, it really adds something so pretty and soft to it
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Sarah! It definitely helped smooth out the gradient--really looking forward to swatching it by itself now too. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Tara!! I may try this one again sometime when I can actually leave the flat without causing a contagion hazard. >_<

DeleteCongrats on your growing blog! I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I do have to say that this mani is so awesome! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jenna! I really loved your take this week as well. :D
DeleteLove how you progressed this using the shade last sponged on the tip putting it at the base of the next shade. I am sure I would not have thought of that on my own without looking at inspirations such as yours. Cannot imagine not owing an indigo polish - despite it's not a true shade seen in a real rainbow. I adore Indigo polishes and know I have far more of 'em than I need. One of my favs is Nubar Indigo Illusion.
ReplyDeleteThank you, beachgal! I'll definitely keep an eye out for that Nubar--I just looked up some swatches, and the duo-shimmer combo on it is amazing!
DeleteOMG this is amazing!!!!! Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Meredith!! :D
DeleteThis is so pretty! I really love rainbow looks! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I'd never really tried anything rainbow before (aside from glitter), but it really is a cheerful look. :D

DeleteOh-so-super-pretty!!! I love this mani! This is a rainbow mani I would rock!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you very much! I did like how it turned out a lot softer with the Au Champagne. I need, like, 8 backups of that polish now! ;)
DeleteC-O-O-L!!!!! LOVE this!
