I could easily have painted my nails a bright red and called it a day (would have made my day a lot shorter, that's for sure), but I decided to get a little creative and try some Hong Kong taxi nail art instead.

Island cabs are red and have lots of silver/chrome details, a green "5 seats" sticker, and "taxi" written on the side in English and Chinese. Yeah, um, I don't write Chinese. I think I did okay with the characters for this--at least for a first-time nail art attempt--but I can still see all the little spots where I didn't get them quite right. Still. Wrote some Chinese on my nails. Has to count for something, right? Personally, I'm happy enough that I can read the "5"...
The red is Revlon (Top Speed) Fire, and the middle nail is Orly Dazzle with a sort of ruffian-applied blend of Jessica Mint Mojito Green and OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window. The white is China Glaze White on White, and I used small and fine-point dotting tools for the writing. Oh, and the silver on my thumb is an Orly striper in Platinum Silver.
Some days I do miss having a car, but there's not really much need for one here in Hongkers. These bright red taxis are everywhere! If you haven't seen it, I'm having my first giveaway one post back, and for more "colour of your car" nails, check out the other Twinsie Tuesday blogs!

OMG, how cute are these? You did a great job Elizabeth! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Maribeth!! :D
DeleteAww those taxis are so cute! Much cooler than the standard yellow ones in the US. And like always you went above and beyond with the nail art! The taxi drivers would be so impressed :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brandi!! Aw, I really should have kept these on long enough to take a taxi ride or two! So embarrassing, though, if they looked at my ring finger and said, "Um, what is that supposed to say?" >_<
DeleteLOVE this!!! Great take on the red taxis =) I especially love the accent nails!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much, Jacqui!!
DeleteThis is awesome!!! Don't get freaked out, but I actually had a dream last night about your post for this TT. Somehow your email about not having a car seeped into my subconscious and I dreamed that you did the weirdest mani that involved blue dots on your skin. Weird, I know.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, thanks, Amanda! You know what that means, though, right?
DeleteCHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
I love this mani!! So fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! ^_^
DeleteCute taxis!!

DeleteYay for HK taxis! lol Do you speak canto too?
ReplyDeleteNowhere near as much as I should by now, Cee. Mostly I've got the yes/no, do you have, asking for the check, do you have this in black, this is delicious, that smells horrible...really basic stuff. I really should start up lessons again!
Deletelove!! so cute, you did such a great job here. and I'm cracking up at Amanda's comment
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Sarah! Hehe, that cracked me up too. Now I have to actually do it. ;o)
DeleteThis came out awesome. I love love love that you did taxi nail art!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! ^_^
DeleteThis is awesome! Your Chinese looks amazing to me. You could have made it all up and I wouldn't have known. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice, thank you!! Husband is getting really good at writing, so he totally spotted my little mistakes right away, but he has a highly enough evolved sense of self-preservation that he knew to make a fuss over them before correcting my penmanship, haha. >_<
DeleteGreat nails! I think the characters look great. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Cordia! :D

ReplyDeleteProbably never would have occurred to me without this theme to do, but it really was a lot of fun. Thank you, Jenn!
Deletethis is so great! I love that the taxis are red!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, ChiChi!! I like the taxi design a lot too. These red taxis are really easy to spot (as if they aren't everywhere--HK streets are as full of red as NYC is of yellow). There's also a bright, light blue for Lantau Island and a bold, medium green for the New Territories.
DeleteThis is adorable! What a great idea! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Chelsea! (^_^)
