Twinsie Tuesday: Floral Nails

The theme for today's Twinsie Tuesday post is floral nails, and I was especially excited for it because I love doing dotted flower nail art. But aaugh, the trouble I ended up having! This design looked better in my head; that polish had gone goopy; this polish wouldn't level; that colour was way too dark when it dried...I had problems with just about every single element of today's manicure except for the flowers themselves, so I decided to ditch the fancy, new ideas and untried polishes and go back to the beginning with cherry blossom nails.

I say "back to the beginning" because I was sporting cherry blossom nail art in my very first post on Did My Nails. It was also one of the first real nail art ideas I tried out, after watching about a dozen YouTube tutorials, and I wore it all the time last spring. Then my interest in nail polish bloomed (see what I did there? floral nails? bloomed? Yes, I crack me up.) into a full-blown obsession, and I've been trying so many new polishes and manicure ideas over the last few months that I hadn't revisited this design since. So with various polishes and ideas giving me fits for this post, I thought it would be fun to go back to my old favourite.

My base colour is still China Glaze For Audrey, but instead of white I did the cherry blossoms (or sakura) in Nfu Oh NFU150, a lovely, pale pink. I used Revlon Colorstay Passionate Pink for the centers again, only mixed with a couple of drops of the Nfu Oh 150 to make it a little lighter and softer and help it compliment the colour of the petals. And much as I love glitter, I decided to skip it this time...which honestly surprises me because I'm usually ALL ABOUT the glitter. Anything sparkly, really. But I thought these looked all nice and creamy-soft, so I resisted the Fairy Dust by promising myself a big ol' glitterbomb in the very near future.

Despite early aggravations, today's Twinsie Tuesday theme was a fun chance to go back and play with a favourite design. Can't wait to see what the other TT ladies did for their floral nails!

I love cherry blossoms too! I was so excited we got to be in Tokyo last year while the sakura were in bloom. The park was just one big asplosion of gorgeousness with the petals drifting into the wind. Prettiest day ever!

    1. Thanks! If you can dot some flowers, you don't really need to make the branches perfect because you can just put a flower over any part of them you don't like. ;o)

    1. Thanks, Laura! It really isn't as hard as it looks--if you can dot a flower, the rest is just squiggling some lines underneath. And if you don't love how he branches came out, you can pretty much just cover 'em with the flowers! ;)

  24. This came out so amazingly beautiful...must have taken a whole lot of time! I have to get my nails into better shape from hard house work and yard work so I can try some thing as beautiful as this...if I am half as lucky at getting a good design as you did here, everyone will be looking at my nails and I sure don't want anyone looking at them now!

  28. I love this design... My other half went to China today so I was looking for chinese inspired cherry blossom designs for my nails and loved this one! I am a huge nail art enthusiast and have just started my own blog after noticing there was a distinct lack of Brits on the case!!

    Thanks for the inspiration!
