Twinsie Tuesday: Colour Blocking

With all of about 8 minutes to go before this post is supposed to go "live" I finally managed a decent approximation of today's Twinsie Tuesday theme: colour blocking.

I had to redo these so many times that I've literally run out of time to do things like watermark pictures or clean up my cuticles, but I think I'll actually enjoy doing this one again when I have a little more time. Wanna see the failures? Read on!

For something that's supposed to be an "easy" nail art technique, this one gave me such a hard time before I wrapped my head around it. My first attempt was based on a t-shirt I saw earlier in the day that I thought would make a cool nail design. Well, it might have, if I hadn't been just awful at freehanding the triangles. And also, this.

No, there's no clean-up and no watermark. Seriously, wanna claim this as your work? Be my guest. My next effort was a lot better, but there were still too many problems for me to be happy with it.

I wasn't crazy about the colours, which isn't a huge deal, but there's also that weird glob on my middle finger. And the wonky line in the middle of the ring finger? That's a little piece of tape that wouldn't come off. There's some uneven lines along the bottom, too. Still, these wouldn't have been insurmountable, only...

Yeah.

Fortunately I did manage that one "reasonable success" to motivate me to try it again sometime...

...horrible cuticles notwithstanding. ^_-

Hopefully the rest of the Twinsies had much better luck than I did this week!

    1. Aw, thank you, Maribeth! Seriously, for such a mechanically simple concept it gave me so many fits! >_<

  2. I agree with Maribeth! That looks great! And I give you credit for not giving up. I would've thrown in the towel ages ago.

    1. Thank you very much, Amanda! I'd be so much saner if I could just take a break when I get frustrated, but I seem to favour bashing my head against the brick wall until either it breaks or I do. >_<

  3. I LOVE those last 2 manis! And I like the green color scheme as well, a little bit funky, but definitely something I'd wear

    1. Thank you, Sarah! I love funky greens, but I think with that combo I either want the moss green to be brighter or or the lime to be a little less neon. Not a huge deal--I'd have happily gone with it if it weren't for the other wonky bits--but since I was going to start over anyway, I figured some different colours might bring me better luck. ;)

    1. Thanks so much, Tara! Ugh, that thumb. The guide stickers I used for the tips said to let the polish dry before I took them off. I didn't think that sounded right, but I followed the directions. Big mistake!

  6. Tape is hard but I do like the pattern you made! I'm gonna steal this idea one day ;)

  7. Your final mani is phenomenal, I can't believe you referred to it as 'decent' lol. I really like the color combos on all three :)

    1. Aw, thank you so much!! I don't want to say too much, but there's a reason (or three) that I didn't zoom in as tightly on these as I usually do. ^_-

    1. Thank you very much! It usually takes me several tries (or more) to wrap my brain around a new nail art idea, so I'll definitely be taking another pass at this one before too long...hopefully next time I can manage it without the disastrous freehanding and tape ruination. :)

  14. Tape can be horrible! I am too impatient to wait for my base color to dry before I want to apply it!. I love what you ended up with, the colors work well!

    1. Thank you! Yeah, my tape and I need to have a conversation. I swear I left TONS of time for drying, but it kept acting up on me. >_<

    1. You are too sweet, Brandi--thank you very much! You know, the more I look at that green combo, the more I think I like those colours after all. I love pink and red on their own merits and keep thinking I should wear more of them, but I always seem to gravitate back towards the greens. ;)

  22. I *always* mess up taping! I love that you posted all your different attempts. I wish I had half the skill to pull off your so-called "failures," which are all super cute, btw! I love all the brights you used.

    1. That's so sweet of you, Chelsea--thank you very much! I got such a laugh (and a head-banging-ly frustrated groan, but also the laugh ;p) out of my failed attempts, so I thought they might provide some amusement. >_<

  23. I LOVE both of them!! Btw, what kind of bulbs do you use? Mine suck and are so inconsistent. BOO!

    1. Thank you so much, Anna! Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by bulbs...

    2. Oh, dur, you probably mean in my light box. I actually use an LED lamp, which isn't really recommended. I definitely have a hard time capturing teals accurately, so if/when I add a second/diffusing light, I'll probably go with something else.
