Stateside Haul

My polishes are here! My polishes are here! At long, glorious last, my polishes are here!!

As some of you may know, I spent pretty much the month of July in the States, and while I was there I stocked up on...well, on every pretty little polish that caught my eye. On so many polishes I just haven't been able to find here in Hong Kong. On so. many. polishes.

I felt like a drug mule with my plastic bags of bubble-wrapped polishes stuffed between jeans and bras in my suitcases and wadded inside t-shirts in the box I mailed home. That box finally got here, so I stacked the entire haul together, and...yeah. It looked like one of those press conference tables you see on the news where the DEA guys pose in front of all the stuff they seized in the raid.

Then I unwrapped them all and thought of this quote from Snuff, by Sir Terry Pratchett...

"...and in the middle of all this, Young Sam stood paralysed, almost in tears with the knowledge that no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't play with everything all at once."

I feel ya', Young Sam. I feel ya'.

(picspam after the break!)

I was lucky enough to meet up with Brandi of The Collegiate Nail early in the trip. We swapped polishes over caffeinated beverages before hitting Ulta, Sally's, Claire's...some art supply stores that were woefully short on microbeads... I had a fabulous time, Brandi. You rock my socks off, lady!

I also hit pretty much every Target, Wal-mart, Rite Aid, Walgreen's, salon, JC Penney (Sephora, yay!), dollar store, and Mom & Pop pharmacy I came across. Even coming and going, I raided the polish selection at the airport massage places (shout-out to XpresSpa in Atlanta & Dallas!). Plus I got some much-needed foot and back massages while I was there, which, excellent bonus!

Husband took one look at all this insanity and said, "You're never going to use all of these."

    1. My shoes don't even know what to do with it all, but I'm gonna do my best to manage somehow. ;)

The flip side of it, though...and the reason for such nutso indulgence...is the total lack of availability on most of these in HK, so for all my giddy glee right now I get to spend the time until my next trip drooling at all the polishes everyone's swatching that I can't get my hands on. >_<

    1. I don't even want to know either! Birthday money, Christmas money, flung it all at polish. But I regret nothing!!

At least until the credit card bill gets here. ;)

  6. O.M.G. Elizabeth. You need to come to NYC next time you're stateside because apparently shopping with you defies logic as it appears that polish flocks to you. I'm literally salivating here.

  21. I'm dying of jealousy over the Nfu-Ohs and Butter Londons! I wish they had them here in Japan! Nice haul!!!

    1. Thank you! I was really psyched to find the Butter London display (I've been wanting The Black Knight so hard!). And I actually managed to plan a little bit ahead of time--I ordered the Nfu Oh polishes online so they could meet me at my in-laws' house. ;)

  22. Oh, I wish I could put my hands on some of these beauties... well, on most of these beauties... :-)
And about the thing that your husband said, I'm not so sure you won't use all that stuff, 10 years ago if someone told me that one day I will wear green nail polish on my nails I would surely laugh very loud... and look at me now...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Funny, isn't it? I wouldn't have believed it either, but now I'm telling myself, "Yes, I know I have a green that's very similar, but this one's a little more blue, so obviously I MUST HAVE IT!"

I can't even imagine what I'll be obsessing about 10 more years on. ;)

  23. Wow lol biggest polish haul I've ever seen

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is totally amazing! Craziness! :) Have fun!!! I spy some Butter Londons! Looks like The Black Knight which I just bought and will be posting soon about it! :) It's totally awesome by the way!! Had a chip after one day using SV topcoat, so I wouldn't recommend that..I think it made it too thick. Will be foiling off the polish on one nail and will try again w/ Out the Door topcoat...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, it's totally The Black Knight! Sorry yours chipped that quickly--I'll definitely take top coat into account when I use mine, thanks!
