Saran Wrap Manicure: Totally '80's

Since my first saran wrap nails worked out pretty well, I've been looking forward to using this technique again. I wanted to try something besides a stone/marble look this time, though, so I took some inspiration from this summer's neon trend and went totally '80's.

The base colour is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, which I've been using all over the place and seriously love. OPI Alpine White (my only true-white polish) would have been a little brighter and probably more 1980's, but after months of dedicated service mine has gone all goopy and needs replacing (it's beyond even the miracle of polish thinner and mostly makes cameo appearances in nail art while it waits to become part of some future franken). No matter, though, My Boyfriend Scales Walls was plenty bright, especially with the other colours for contrast.

The black is Revlon Colorstay Stiletto, and the silver is Orly Dazzle. Then over those went Orly Beach Cruiser, a fabulously neon pink. My camera and I had a series of heated discussions about its willingness to photograph Beach Cruiser accurately, but it eventually agreed to do a pretty good job of it. I thought about using a matte top coat, but shiny seemed more appropriate for the '80's style I was going for.

If you're not familiar with the technique or are looking for more info on how to do saran wrap nails, you can read a little more detail in this post, but it's really very simple. Paint nails, use crumpled up cling wrap to apply dabs of other colours, and...and yep, that's pretty much it!

  1. This takes me back. :) This is especially fitting since NYC is releasing the Saved By the Bell collection. I'm having a flashback. I loved the 80's so much!
