Hidden Treasure in the Bargain Bin

A little while ago, in my post on where to find nail polish in Hong Kong, I mentioned the bargain bins at some of the beauty supply stores around town. They can be a little hit-or-miss and aren't stocked with many familiar name brands, but every now and then you come across something surprisingly awesome. Case in point, this tiny, little bottle of Marcia Shiny Nail Colour.

This little polish cost all of about sixty cents (US) at Sasa. In the bottle, it looked like it might be a decent duochrome. At two for just over a buck, I was hardly going to be crushed if it didn't turn out to have a very good shift, but boy, was I pleasantly surprised!

The colour variation on this puppy is incredible! It goes from a rosy bronze to a grass green with very little movement or change in the light. Seriously, I just sat there gawking at my nails, amazed that this cheap little bottle of polish was showing off the most dramatic duochrome shift I've ever seen.

Of course, there are a couple of minor downsides to this hidden treasure. One is that I'm not even sure what to call this colour--I can't find any info at all on "Marcia Shiny Nail Colour" online--but since there's a little "8" etched into the bottom of the bottle, I'm going to go with that. The second thing is that, having plucked this from a bargain bin, it's sheer potluck whether I'm ever going to be able to find it again. I did pick up a second mini-bottle (I took a chance and grabbed two, knowing I'd be bummed if this one mini was all I had, if it turned out to shift as well on the nail as it appeared to in the bottle), but that'll probably be all I end up getting. Third is that, as with a lot of the bargain bin finds, I can't imagine the formula is actually 3-Free. Still, I can't help but be tickled at what an awesome little duo this turned out to be.

    1. I really lucked out with this little guy. I've been keeping an eye out for more ever since, but I have yet to come across it again. But in some ways that makes it even more fun, that I happened to spot it before it disappeared. ;)
