I came home with my ginormous polish haul last Friday only so disappointed that my evening plans had been canceled because it meant I could sit down and start swatching my new pretties right away...only I was distracted by a sudden, desperate need to give this blog a makeover. So, hey, new layout! But when I needed a break from over-obsessive Photoshopping ("Hmm, this bottle isn't quite red enough...no, wait, now it's too red...") I took some time to try out some of my new polishes, starting with Fast Track, representing District 6 (Transportation) in the China Glaze Hunger Games collection.
Fast Track is an interesting polish. It has a tendency to go "mannequin hands" on a lot of people, but I could not resist the gorgeous, golden shimmer in that bottle.
The formula was great, if a little thin. Even the first coat showed a lot of its gold highlights, but the rest of the colour practically faded into my skin tone. The second coat was quite a bit better. Still smooth, still shimmering all pretty and golden. Nearly opaque, despite the thinness of the formula. I still wasn't really seeing the tan colour very much against my skin, but with some VNL still showing on a couple of nails, I decided to keep going. I'm glad I did, too, because the third coat made a big difference.
Some find the colour a little disappointing for such a great shimmer, but the more I looked at it on, the more I liked it. The polish looks a little darker on me than the first coat or two suggested it would (probably some combination of the slightly olive undertones and my so-pale-I'm-practically-translucent skin), and I'll likely still layer it next time to see if it'll pop a little more. But you know how the shimmer in a bottle doesn't usually translate as strongly to the nail? Fast Track does not have that problem.
This isn't going to be a colour for everyone, but it could be a great polish for work or other situations in which you can't wear too much colour or glitter but still want a nice sparkle to your nails. It's eye-catching, but it's not overt. And since the amazing shimmer is obviously Fast Track's strongest feature, I like that the rest of the polish doesn't try to compete with it. It makes for a nice contrast.
Fast Track isn't my favourite polish ever, but with as large a collection as China Glaze did for The Hunger Games, I like that they had room to try something this unique.
I didn't like any of the hunger games collection, they all looked murky and dark...
ReplyDeleteI do wonder if, if they'd released the collection a little further into spring, they might've included some brighter colours. I was definitely disappointed with some of the choices. For example, they could have done a lovely, shimmery blue-green for the "fishing" district, instead of grey. Or something besides a simple, beigey mauve for "textiles." For that matter, I'm not sure how golden tan is supposed to be "transportation" either. I definitely hear ya', Cee.
DeleteWow, really interesting color! I've always passed over this one, I don't think it's a color that will do me any favors, but I am enjoying seeing it on you! The putty-gold color is a wonderful combination of subtle yet special.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but I love your nail shape! So cute and perfect!
That is so sweet of you, Jessica--thank you very much!
Delete"Putty" is exactly the colour I was trying to think of, trying to describe this one. :)
wow this is gorgeous! its so subtle but the shimmer in it adds the perfect touch! great swatch :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, esmeheredia! I'm glad you like it!
DeleteI kept passing on this one because I have Orly's Nite Owl, which is similar but it has silver shimmer instead of gold. It looks really pretty. I get lots of compliments when I wear Nite Owl.
ReplyDeleteOoh, silver? Now I need to look for Nite Owl! :)
DeleteLove the golden flecks in Fast Track!
ReplyDeleteAren't they pretty? ^_^
DeleteThis is my favorite from this collection! Looks beautiful on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I was hoping to see some nice simmer after looking at bottle, but I was stunned at how well it actually transferred. :)
DeleteWhat a lovely gold polish!
ReplyDeleteThe dusting of sparkle really makes this one!
DeleteI LOVE FT. I just havent gotten around to wearing it. However, its lovely on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope it turns out nicely on you, too--I knew from the bottle it'd be a tricky one, but I was helpless in the face of all that shimmer! ;)
DeleteI was pretty underwhelmed by THG collection but I did pick up this one! It looks lovely on you and I agree with you about it being a beautiful polish. I wore it on a day where I needed to be 'conservative' :P It got a bit boring after awhile but it was definitely better than no shimmer at all! (:
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brittney! And I'm glad you liked it too! Yeah, I don't see this being one I wear for days and days, but it's the snazziest "conservative" polish I have ever seen. :D
DeleteI think this is a colour I would have to have on my nails to tell if I liked it or not. I awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award :)

Thank you so, so very much! Wow, my first award--I'm literally blushing and giggling! ^__^
DeleteChina Glaze always has such pretty collection, and the Hunger Games one had some really interesting colours, like this one!
ReplyDeleteI like that they tried some new things with this collection--Fast Track was a pleasant surprise! :)
DeleteThe only color from the Hunger Games collection I was able to get my hands on was Harvest Moon but I always love swatches of Fast Track. I am totally pale enough for this to look nice and golden haha.
ReplyDeleteHarvest Moon was long gone before I could get my hands on it (of course, so were most of them!). Yeah, I think Fast Track looks nice on pale skin tones. I haven't seen it on darker skin, but on most medium complexions it does tend to wash out a bit and go mannequin.
DeleteNice shade, I like it on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteIt's a really pretty polish! I love the shimmer; it's such a lovely surprise against an otherwise regular neutral color. :D
